I've ever received about writing was this:
Think of the one thing your protagonist would never, ever do.
Then, make him do it.
On a related note:
Think of the one thing you would never ever do again.
I know what mine is.
Acrylic fingernails.
1. Ow. They hurt.
2. I couldn't type. TRAGEDY!
3. I woke up in the middle of the night in a panic, dreaming that each of my fingers were in tiny individual jail cells. And ow! (see #1)
Never. Ever. Again.
What's your one thing?

The spinny cups at amusements parks. Barfing all over other patrons really does not make one popular.
Eat liver. *shudder* It's a texture issue for me.
Hiya Hampstergirl! Congrats on the book. I can't wait to read it!
While I've never tried acrylic nails, I have a feeling I'd feel the same way you did. I have a wonky fingernail on my right pointer finger that I'd love to cover up but I think it's going to just stay wonky.
Hi ya! *waves to Lisa*
Skydiving. The horrors! And don't think I'm going to be doing it any time soon.
Nope.
As a public service, I will never again wear a bikini.
Torture.
Too heavy? Hmmmm.
I'm having trouble thinking of something else :(
